This Apartment and Rental Housing Legal Seminar takes an in-depth look at changes in the 2012-2013 REDBOOK. The course is taught by Howard Bookstaff with Hoover Slovacek, LLP. The program is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided from 12 to 1 p.m. Certificates will not be given to attendees who arrive after 9:30 a.m. This program is approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission for 7 MCEs. The course number for the full day program is 07-00-123-23683. Sleeping rooms the night before the program are available by contacting the Holiday Inn South Broadway at 903-561-5800. Cancellations must be received in writing by February 15, 2012 and are subject to a $35 cancellation fee. Substitutions are allowed.
Morning session topics (9 a.m.–Noon)
Getting the most out of the REDBOOK—Discover hidden treasures in the new REDBOOK from experienced attorneys. This section offers a quick review of basic leasing, eviction and other elemental aspects of managing rental property.
Forms review—Learn about changes to TAA leases and related forms and how they affect your day-to-day operations, as instructors review the most often used and important forms
Afternoon session topics (1–4 p.m.)
Legislative and regulatory changes—Get an in-depth explanation of all federal and state statutory and regulatory changes since the last REDBOOK revision that affect rental property ownership and management. With ample opportunity for questions and answers, this discussion will provide details about what members need to know regarding law changes addressed in the new REDBOOK.
Detailed review of legal issues—Learn about laws that experienced practitioners need to understand and discuss laws that you probably have never heard of but can cause you problems if you don’t know about them.
On the horizon—Discuss emerging issues that we may have to address as an association, including adverse local ordinances.
