TAA Board of Directors approves changes to Lease Contracts and addenda

At its meeting in October, the TAA Board of Directors approved changes to the association’s Lease Contracts and related forms. While the rental housing industry is very fortunate that there were not as many legislative changes during the recent session that mandated revisions to the forms, TAA’s general counsel advises using the most current versions of all Lease Contracts and addenda.

Overall forms changes

The bulk of the changes to the TAA Lease Contract involve clarifications, additions and improvements, many of which have come from TAA members. As always, there are also sections in the Lease Contract and in other for-sale forms that have been updated to respond to current industry issues.

Revised forms will be available to Forms for Windows® and Forms Online users on November 9, and printed forms should be available to order from local associations by December 1.

The complete list of forms being revised is included below. Please note that the two submetering addenda noted in bold below are the only forms with mandatory updates.

  • Apartment Lease Contract (Spanish version also available)
  • Condo/Townhome Lease Contract
  • Residential Lease Contract
  • Electrical Submetering Addendum (Spanish version also available)
  • Employment Application (Spanish version also available)
  • Lease Contract Renewal (Spanish on reverse)
  • Lease Contract Guaranty (Spanish on reverse)
  • Student Housing Lease Contract
  • Supplemental Rental Application for Non-U.S. Citizens (Spanish on reverse)
  • Water/Wastewater Submetering Addendum (Spanish version also available)

For your convenience, a PDF can be downloaded here to see the changes made to the forms listed above.

Utility submetering forms

Both TAA’s Electrical Submetering Addendum and Water/Wastewater Submetering Addendum are being revised to reflect changes in law, which have now been incorporated into Texas Public Utility Commission and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules, respectively.

REDBOOK Online and printed REDBOOK revisions

TAA is in the midst of REDBOOK and REDBOOK Online revisions for members to ensure that you have timely access to important legal information and laws that affect your business. Final revisions to the REDBOOK Online, and all articles, forms and other resources are scheduled to be available by January 1. If you have questions about accessing the REDBOOK Online, please contact communications@taa.org.

The revised version of the printed REDBOOK will be available from your local apartment association in early February.
