2024 Primary Election Wrap Up

BY TAA GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

Synopsis

With the 2024 Primary Election behind us, here’s a quick recap of key updates and developments that may impact the Texas rental housing industry.

Primary Election Recap

As 57 House members and two Senators faced at least one opponent in the Primary, we are seeing 9 candidates heading to the May 28 Run-Off Election, which will determine the final candidates for the General Election in November. The record number of Republican incumbents to lose was 7 in 2012 and 2014. The election was historic – losing 9 sitting State Reps with many more going to runoffs. This is also the first time in history we know of a sitting Speaker of the House to go into a runoff.
