The Texas Apartment Association Joins Forces with We Are Blood to Build Momentum for Statewide Blood Drive Initiative
Synopsis
Recent event powers blood donation with the potential to save up 63 lives.
The TAA blood drive initiative, a first for the association, was launched during this year’s TAA ONE Conference in San Antonio in April. In mid-July during TAA’s quarterly Board of Directors meeting, a blood drive was hosted in partnership with We are Blood. Both board members and attendees were encouraged to donate blood and advocate for this year’s statewide blood drive sponsorship, recognizing the broad impact on the lives of Texans.
“One of the things I love most about the rental housing industry – and there are many things I LOVE about this industry – is how our members give back to their communities,” said Kelley Liserio, President of Texas Apartment Association. “And I don’t mean just the things we do that benefit our rental housing communities and our residents, but also how we make a difference in the cities and towns we live in.”
“We are all passionate about the rental housing industry, and for me, especially about providing housing to 7 million Texans. That’s a lot of people! And when tragedy strikes, many of our own are affected. While there are many great causes that we can contribute to financially, the need for blood donations requires a very personal, very human contribution,” Liserio added.
TAA, along with its Product/Service Council, is calling on local associations and members to participate in blood drives throughout the year. The initiative, launched in collaboration with South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, highlights the importance of community involvement in life-saving efforts.
During the TAA ONE Conference, members were also invited to contribute financially to support the initiative and TAA made a significant start with a $2,000 charitable donation in honor of the 2024 ONE Conference speakers.
TAA is not just about providing housing; it’s about building communities and supporting those communities in every way possible. TAA’s statewide blood drive initiative is a testament to its commitment to making a meaningful difference, especially with the latest American Red Cross data which shows that about 62% of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood, but only about 3% does. By donating blood locally, TAA is doing its part to make sure all Texans continue to have access to life-saving blood when they need it.
